Along Hancock Brook in Worcester you drive on a gravel road looking down at a pristine stream as it cascades through its narrow valley from the Worcester Range to the North Branch. As you travel through northern hardwoods, fir and hemlock, you get a view of exquisite waters and a setting typical of Vermont in an earlier day.
Over sixty concerned citizens have helped VRC protect this unique, undeveloped 1.7-acre parcel bracketing Hancock Brook on November 15, 2007. The clean waters, darting trout, private scenic views, a waterfall and swimming hole will now be available for this and future generations.
The owner wanted this parcel to remain perpetually in a natural condition and be available to the public for swimming and passive enjoyment. In addition, the seller pledged to donate the proceeds of the acquisition to an endowment fund for the music program at the Doty Memorial School. This is a huge win for the people of Worcester as well of the surrounding towns.

With the help of over 120 donors, the VRC recently completed the conservation of an important parcel in the undeveloped upper headwaters of the North Branch. Those seventy acres on the hip of the Worcester range will NOT be developed. To those of you who contributed to either or both of these projects we give you our sincere thanks. Over 60 donors contributed to the purchase of the Hancock Brook parcel. There is absolutely no doubt, THIS IS YOUR SUCCESS STORY!!
If you should have any questions about this project, please email us at vrc@vermontriverconservancy.org or call Steve Libby at 802-363-0616 or 802-229-0820. We would be delighted to discuss this project with you.
