Millard River Corridor Easements Hancock, Vermont White River

Millard River Corridor Easements

White River Partnership was working with landowners to plant trees and shrubs along rivers to hold riverbanks in place, and they saw that this would be an important floodplain to protect. The landowner and White River Partnership worked with Vermont River Conservancy on two easements here that, together, protect 30 acres and one-and-a-quarter miles of White River shoreline.

With an easement in place, the land is protected from future development, and the river can meander across its natural floodplain here. When water is high, this helps slow river water and filter out debris, helping protect Hancock Village roads and houses downstream.
