VRC has a new conservation easement!

Thursday, May 2nd, 2019

The Karlan / Mason project is located on the Green River in Guilford, VT.  This property was severely damaged during TS Irene with an existing house completely demolished and a major avulsion of the Green River.   The original owner (Harris) agreed to sell the demolished house and the “island” upon which it was located to Jimmy Karlan and Kathryn Mason.  The Karlan/Mason’s then agreed to work with the Connecticut River Watershed Council to remove the demolished structure and move ahead with recommended river channel improvements.   Fitzgerald Environmental Associates, under contract with CRWC and funded by and ERP grant, developed a stream channel restoration plan to stabilize the site.  The Karlan – Masons donated a River Corridor Easement to VRC to prevent future development of the parcel.  Check it out on our completed projects page:  https://www.vermontriverconservancy.org/completed-projects/karlan-mason-river-corridor-easement
